DESCRIPTION:
An epidural spinal anesthetic is often used during labor and
delivery. The anesthetic may be introduced during delivery,
provided that a catheter has been placed in the epidural space
in anticipation of need. In this figure a needle indicates the
injection site. The patient is asked to pull her knees up to
open the spaces between the vertebrae.
