ILLUSTRATION NUMBER: 19-28MEV-L6

DETAIL:

DESCRIPTION: A vertical banded gastroplasty, or VBG, procedure for weight loss. In this procedure, the proximal (closer to the esophagus) end of the stomach is circled by a band that restricts the amount of food that can be ingested at one time. The stomach is made initially smaller by dividing a circular area at the lesser curvature of the stomach. The band is placed by passing it through the circular space and around the proximal stomach.
