DESCRIPTION:
A Roux-En-Y procedure for weight loss. It is performed by
(1) dividing the stomach with staples into an approximately 30mL
proximal (nearest the esophagus) pouch; (2) dividing the second
part of the small bowel (the jejunum); (3) anastomosing (i.e.,
putting together) the proximal cut end of the jejunum with the
side of the jejunum that is considerably farther "down stream";
and finally (4) joining the cut distal end of the jejunum to the
stomach.
