DESCRIPTION:
An anterior view of the ankle and heel (calcaneus). Note the
shelf-like sustentaculum tali, the part of the calcaneus that
“holds up” the talus. This shelf-like structure, in turn, is
supported by the strong tendon of the big toe (the flexor
hallucis longus).
