DESCRIPTION: The hip joint exhibiting separation of the epiphysis of the head of the femur. A slipped capital epiphysis would often be displaced inferiorly and posteriorly from the socket (acetabulum). The cartilage growth plate or epiphysis separates the capital, or head, from the shaft. The condition is usually known by its acronym, SCFE.
