DESCRIPTION:
Side view of a section through the incisor. Each side is moored
to the sides of its bony socket by the periodontal ligaments.
These multiple bands of connective tissue allow the tooth to
give a little under pressure and help to transmit information to
the brain concerning the amount of force being applied to a
tooth. Although an incisor can withstand a great deal of force
when it is being used to cut or tear food, a force applied to
the anterior lower part of the tooth can dislodge it relatively
easily.
