ILLUSTRATION NUMBER: 16-57MEV-L6

DETAIL:

DESCRIPTION: The muscles of the face and scalp. The aponeurosis is a flat tendon that holds the two muscle groups in the front and back of the scalp together in the center of the scalp. If a wound penetrates this layer, the pull of the two muscle groups makes the wound gape open causing more bleeding. (See also layers of the scalp.)
