DESCRIPTION:
The atlas (C1) after a burst fracture known as a Jefferson fracture. Note
that these fractures occur when the occipital condyles are
forced downward onto the joint surfaces of the atlas, the first
cervical vertebra (C1). Usually multiple fractures occur.
