DETAIL:

DESCRIPTION:
Episiotomy. This incision is usually made in the skin and the
posterior vaginal wall between the anus and the posterior edge
of the vaginal opening. This helps to avoid accidental and
irregular tears of the perineum by the fetal head. The pudendal
nerve is anesthetized for this procedure. The incision may also
be made in the lower lateral part of the vaginal opening.
