DESCRIPTION:
The major measurements of the pelvis — conjugates — are used by
obstetricians to determine the size of the birth canal. These
measurements must be compatible with those of the fetal head for
successful vaginal delivery. The promontory of the sacrum, the
pubic symphysis, and the ischial spines are the most important
landmarks for these measurements since the fetal head must pass
these rigid points in order to enter and subsequently pass
through the birth canal.
