DESCRIPTION:
The ovary primarily secretes the female hormone estrogen. The
corpus luteum, made of cells remaining in an ovarian follicle
after ovulation, secrete progesterone. Estrogen is primarily
responsible for the development of secondary sexual
characteristics. Progesterone causes the uterine epithelium to
thicken and prepare for the possible implantation of a
fertilized ovum.
