DESCRIPTION:
Schematic diagram of the spinal cord and spinal nerves in the
chest region. These nerves are the intercostal nerves. They run
between the ribs and are protected by them. The intercostal
nerves supply the muscle and skin of the chest wall. Each nerve
is a typical spinal nerve—that is, contains motor, sensory, and
autonomic fibers.
