DESCRIPTION:
The ventricles of the brain contain cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)
which fills them and then flows out and around the brain and
spinal cord into the subarachnoid space, found under one of the
protective coverings of the brain. The lateral ventricles extend
into the frontal, parietal, and temporal lobes. The third
ventricle is centrally placed and single. The fourth ventricle
is near the cerebellum. CSF is formed by the vessels called the
choroid plexus. The average amount of CSF contained in a
human being is 135 cc.
