ILLUSTRATION NUMBER: 11-05bMEV-L6

DETAIL:

DESCRIPTION: Areas in the midline of the brain supplied by the circle of Willis. The brain in this drawing has been cut through the corpus callosum, the main connection between the two halves of the brain. The branches of the circle of Willis are prone to vascular disease; weakening of the vessel walls called aneurysms, which usually appear as tiny balloon-like swellings on a vessel; and blood clots. All arteries are subject to arteriosclerosis, which is a progressive disease that thickens the walls of arteries, thereby closing them. See also cortical areas supplied by major branches of the circle of Willis.
