DESCRIPTION:
Cortical areas supplied by major branches of the circle of
Willis. The branches of the circle of Willis are prone to
vascular disease; weakening of the vessel walls called
aneurysms, which usually appear as tiny balloon-like swellings
on a vessel; and blood clots. All arteries are subject to
arteriosclerosis, which is a progressive disease that thickens
the walls of arteries, thereby closing them.
See also midline areas of the brain
supplied by the circle of Willis.
