DESCRIPTION:
The “hills” on the surface of the brain are gyri (sing. =
gyrus). They occur in nearly the same pattern in all human
brains, so they can be used as landmarks for functional areas.
Some important gyri are the precentral gyrus—a motor area—and
the postcentral gyrus—a sensory area. The cerebellum is also
seen in this figure. It is a center for fine coordinated motor
control.
