DESCRIPTION:
Major cells of the central nervous system (CNS). The neuron is
the main functional cell of the CNS. Each has many “receivers”
called dendrites and only one “sending” process called an axon.
The other cells pictured are supporting and nurturing cells
called glial cells. Mature neurons cannot divide. If the cells
are damaged or die, they cannot be replaced.
