DESCRIPTION:
Posterior view of the bladder, prostate, and seminal vesicles.
The sexual glands secrete the fluids that accompany the sperm at
ejaculation. If the prostate gland enlarges, as a result of
cancer or benign prostatic hypertrophy, it can press on and
close the urethra. This enlargement retards or stops the flow of
urine and must be remedied—most often by surgery. Men over the
age of 40 are particularly prone to prostatic disease.
