ILLUSTRATION NUMBER: 7-06MEV-L6

DETAIL:

DESCRIPTION: The lymph from the intestines collects in a wide lymph vessel called the cisterna chyli. The lymph then flows into the main lymphatic duct called the thoracic duct. Lymph from the colon also flows centrally along the arteries that supply it, and the mesenteries and peritoneum that support it. Because it drains lymphatic fluid from virtually every part of the body, the lymphatic system is heavily involved in the metastasis of cancer.
