DETAIL:

DESCRIPTION:
The esophagus, stomach, and small intestine. The esophagus is
primarily a thoracic organ—that is, it lies behind the trachea
and the heart. It pierces the diaphragm, which acts as a valve
to keep the stomach contents from flowing into the esophagus
(reflux). The stomach is a muscular mixing sac and digestive
organ. It empties when its (pyloric) valve opens. The contents
enter the duodenum. The small intestine is shown suspended from
its mesentery, which supports and transmits blood vessels,
lymphatics, and nerves.
