DESCRIPTION: The principal arteries and veins. Arteries convey blood away from the heart. The blood flows from arteries to capillaries and into the smallest veins. Blood is returned to the heart by the vena cava, the largest vein. Note that the veins generally follow the pattern of the arteries and often have the same name as the artery.
