DETAIL:

DESCRIPTION:
The valves of the heart in closed position. Observe the openings
of the coronary arteries in the aorta. They are the first
branches of the aorta as it leaves the heart. Blood is kept from
flowing back into the heart by valves called semilunar valves,
because of their half-moon shape. These are the valves most
often replaced by artificial valves.
