DESCRIPTION:
The heart as it appears during contraction (systole). Note the
position of the valves. The ventricles empty their contents at
this stage. When the heart contracts during systole, the
tricuspid valve closes and blood is shunted from the right
ventricle into the pulmonary arteries for transport to the
lungs.
