DESCRIPTION:
Cross section midway through the right thigh.
Quadriceps is the term applied
to the four muscles of the anterior thigh, often referred to as
the “quads.” The primary function of all these muscles is
extension of the knee, as in kicking a ball. The group inserts
on the tibia, the large leg bone, by way of the patellar tendon,
which can be felt at the front of the knee just below the
patella (kneecap). See also
cross section through the right leg at the
middle of the calf.
