ILLUSTRATION NUMBER: 3-11MEV-L6

DETAIL:

DESCRIPTION: The spinal column. Note the natural curves of the neck, thorax, and lumbar areas of the spine. The vertebral column forms the axis of the body. From it are appended the skull and the skeleton of the limbs. Although the vertebrae differ in each region of the spine, most consist of a body, a neural arch, a dorsal spine, and transverse processes. Fibrocartilaginous intervertebral discs are inserted between vertebrae.
