DESCRIPTION:
Cross section through a molar. The nerves and blood vessels
occupy the root canal and the pulp cavity. Periodontal ligaments
hold the tooth in its socket. Most of the tooth is composed of a
core of dentine. The hard covering of the tooth is enamel. The
gums, or gingival, help to protect the enamel-dentine junction,
but if not cleaned regularly they become the site of serious
infection.
