joint. B, The disc moves further forward as the jaw
opens; the jaw moves toward the raised tubercle just in front of
the joint. C, The disc changes shape and the articular
surface of the mandible glides further forward. The jaw may
become locked in this position if the cartilage does not seat
properly.
