DESCRIPTION:
The closed temporomandibular joint with its ligamentous capsule
intact. The mandible is relatively strong and mobile. It is
hinged at the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). The joint between
the temporal bone and the mandible is reinforced by a strong
fibrous capsule and has a fibrocartilage disc interposed between
the articular surfaces.
