DESCRIPTION:
A typical synovial joint has cartilage covering the articular
surfaces. A capsule reinforces the joint and forms a cavity for
the synovial fluid, which lubricates the joint. These capsules
are further reinforced by the presence of ligaments that hold
the bones together, and the muscles and tendons that surround
the joints.
